Easily preventable plumbing issues

Far too often we receive calls requesting a drain cleaning that turn out to be caused by something very easily preventable. One very common cause for a clogged drain is lint from the washing machine.

If you use a washing machine at home to do your laundry, then surely you have noticed a large amount of lint from your linens gets ejected from the washing machine discharge during the rinse and spin cycle. This lint goes down your drain, clings to the wall of the pipe, and builds up over a period of time, slowly closing up and cutting off the passage of water.

This blockage can easily be prevented and save you the mess and headache, as well as a few bucks you would have to pay the plumber to rid your drain of the clog. You should install a lint trap on the end of the discharge line on your washing machine. They can be picked up, usually for a few pennies, at most grocery, hardware, and home improvement stores and install easily with a rubber band, wire tie, or plastic zip tie.

After just a few loads of laundry you can easily see how much debris you are preventing from getting in your drain. These traps should be changed frequently before they collect too much as to restrict the water from being discharged.

Most would assume it not be in the best interest of a plumbing company to tell it's customers how to prevent the need for their services. We at Ardmore Plumbing realize that it is in our best interest to save the customer as much as possible and provide accurate information and the same honesty we expect in return because after all, we're you're neighbors, and the only way to help your community is to help you're neighbor.
